fearfully and wonderfully madeMother’s Day is upon us.

That special time of year we dedicate to celebrating moms and the precious gift of life God invites them to bring into the world. Perhaps the most famous mom of all is the young bride Mary, the mother of Jesus. And just like all moms, Mary had hopes and dreams for her child. Such as what he would be like, how he will make a difference in the world …

Yet God also had a dream. A dream that was planned from eternity past. That His Son would be the promised Messiah who would take away the sins of the world. And just as Jesus had a purpose that only He could fulfill, so did Mary … and so do you. As does every child conceived first in the very mind and heart of God. Even before we are born, God is intimately acquainted with each one of us. The prophet Isaiah, marveling at his own life, writes, “The LORD called me before my birth; from within the womb he called me by name.” (Isaiah 49:1) What an amazing truth! God knows each of us by name. Every heartbeat is a testimony to God’s love. Together, the hearts of all humanity beat in a symphony declaring the glory of our Creator!

This is a beautiful picture. Yet, the reality is that for many, the news of a pregnancy is not always welcome at first. When my parents discovered they were pregnant with me, a family member suggested abortion. By God’s grace, they instead chose life.

This Mother’s Day, what greater gift would bless the heart of God than for His children, His Church, to rally around those who battle to protect mothers and their children each and every day? Over the past 40+ years, God’s people have planted over 2,000 God-honoring pregnancy resource centers throughout the United States. What better way to join in God’s work than by committing to support organizations that have faithfully loved, supported, and ministered to women who carry God’s most precious possession?

From the beginning of time, God has been weaving His story into ours and ours into His. A story of a God who loves us, created us, and gave His own Son to save us. God’s story beats in every heart and every heartbeat is knitted into God’s story. Scripture teaches that you and I are “fearfully and wonderfully made.” (Psalm 139:14)

How precious that our all-powerful, holy God is also intimately acquainted with all our ways. Praise His Name!

A Special Note: If you or someone you know has lost a child to abortion as I have, there is hope. My Bible study Worthy of Love: A Journey of Hope and Healing After Abortion has ministered to countless women (and tugged on the hearts of quite a few men as well).
